Crops on Top—How to Sell the Season’s Hottest Trend

Crops on Top—How to Sell the Season’s Hottest Trend

Fashion-forward crop top styles are popping up everywhere this season—from tanks to muscle crops, to soft sweatshirts and hoodies.

The good news is that the new selection of crop styles offers mass appeal, so throw out the notion of just selling them to sororities or a girls’ beach volleyball team. In fact, crops are such a hot apparel category right now that we’ve launched a brand-new style—the Bella+Canvas Women’s Cropped Fleece Crew (style 7503). We’ve got five great tips for selling this crop of tanks, tees, shirts and hoodies that we’re pretty sure your clients will love (and so will your bottom line).

1. CROP TANKS & TOPS

Here’s to crops’ sweet spot: short sleeve and tank styles in a variety of fits from boxy to flowy to body-hugging.

A great example of a modest crop tee with mass appeal, our relaxed Bella+Canvas Women’s Flowy Cropped Tee (8882) comes with tailored sleeves and side-seaming. For maximum comfort, the T-shirt is made of a drapey poly/viscose blend. Hot style tip: Crops are the perfect pairing with on-trend high-waisted jeans.

Check out this on-trend tank addition to our line: Bella+Canvas Women’s Racerback Crop Tank (style 6682). This relaxed crop features modern, elongated, raw-edged armholes. Plus, the racerback style makes this tank a must-have for fashionistas. This crop hits some of the season’s hottest colors in Heather Dark Teal and Heather Mauve.

Finally, for a more fitted tank show your clients the irresistible Bella+Canvas Women’s Poly-Cotton Crop Tank (6680) that comes in staple white and black, but also a perfect spring-into-summer Heather Peach.

2. CROP SWEATS & HOODIES

If your clients thought crop tops were just a summer fling, show them these comfier sweatshirt and hoodie counterparts that they can wear alone or layer.

Our newest crop style, Bella+ Canvas Women’s Cropped Fleece Crew (style 7503), is a classic pullover sweatshirt made of a super-soft sponge fleece, and designed for warmth and breathability. Plus, it features an on-trend drop-shoulder seam and a unisex retail fit, and comes in popular colors like Dusty Blue, Mauve and Deep Heather.

If you want to put a chic, ultra-soft twist on a classic hoodie sweatshirt, pitch Independent Trading Co.’s  Women's Premium Lightweight Cropped Hood (style AFX64CRP). This go-everywhere cropped hoodie style is value-priced, so your budget-conscious clients can also take advantage of this trend. Plus, it’s available in soft neutrals like Blush and Bone. Our Black Camo in this style is also sure to be one of our biggest sellers, as it pairs camo with a crop silhouette.

3. ALL THE COLORS

This season, Earth-inspired brights and hues with an autumn vibe hit some high notes on the runways and at retail.

Sunny yellow’s a cheery unisex color that’s big this year. Check out our Next Level Apparel Women's Festival Cali Crop (5080) in Antique Gold for that summery glow.

Loud pinks and airy blues are making a splash. For a perfect pink, for example, try Bella+Canvas Fast Fashion Women's Festival Cropped Tank (style 8483) in Pink.

Finally, burnt orange, toffee brown and moss green—which are trending now—foreshadow a sophisticated fall. Our Bella+Canvas Women's Cropped Fleece Hoodie (style 7502) in Military Green lends that fall vibe.

When you pair hot crop styles with seasonal colors, you’re offering your client a carefully curated product selection, which they’ll appreciate.

4. YOUR BUYER SHORT LIST

Crop tops read upbeat, youthful and carefree, making them great apparel choices for lots of organizations and events.

As we mentioned in our “7 Big Fashion Trends—And How to Sell Them” blog, crops make great candidates groups or organizations you already work with: schools, universities, youth sports teams (plus fan wear), Greek organizations, camps, beachy restaurants and hotels, and even urbane fitness/yoga brands. Plus, these garments work for all types of festivals and resorts as branded merch.

Position crop styles—like our Next Level Apparel Women's Festival Cali Crop (5080) and higher-margin Bella+Canvas Fast Fashion Women’s Cut Out Fleece Hoodie (style 7504)—to brands and companies that serve or appeal to younger demographics.

Point out that cropped fleece hoodies are also great layering pieces for year-round wear.

Whenever you’re chatting with clients, mention the short- and long-sleeve crop styles, along with color recommendations. A crop might just be the garment they need to round out their company store or employee uniforms.

5. DECORATION SUGGESTIONS

Fashion-forward crops give you the fantastic opportunity to pitch more unique or larger decoration options. Consider full-color DTG printing, special-effects screen printing or even a large heat transfer. Multimedia decoration, like embroidery and DTG printing, or screen printing and crystals or nail heads, will also turn heads.

Traditional, reverse and distressed appliqué—whether actual fabric or an ink or heat transfer lookalike—mesh with the crop styles’ youthfulness.

Create in-house or work with your supplier or decorator to design some virtual or physical samples that show imprints in multiple locations, such as front center and back yoke or hem, or an additional sleeve detail or even a custom tag. (Fun fact: We relabel garments right here in our facility, so ask us about how we can brand apparel with custom tags.)

Crop tops are fun, retail styles that end-users will likely wear over and over, throughout the year, garnering your clients’ brands even more recognition and impressions.
